Meet the Lee Building Maintenance Leadership Team

Jason Lee is the chief executive officer of Lee Building Maintenance, a commercial cleaning company on the cutting-edge of innovation. Lee leads strategy and growth for the Frederick, MD-based business, which was named to the 2022 Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing private companies in the United States. Founded in 2015, Lee Building Maintenance provides professional cleaning and custodial services across the healthcare, manufacturing, and commercial office space sectors. Using his skillfully crafted and proven solutions, Lee keeps buildings spotless and helps businesses run more efficiently. This, in turn, improves customer retention and satisfaction and promotes healthy professional environments. Lee is a Certified Business Service Executive (CBSE), one of the highest designations of excellence in the building service industry from Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI). Active in the Frederick community, Lee sits on the Board of Directors for Frederick Health, Woodsboro Bank, as well as BSCAI. Previously, he was board chair of the Carroll Creek Rotary and Frederick County Chamber of Commerce. When he is not in the office, at a board meeting or otherwise volunteering in his community, the married father of three enjoys golf and traveling with his family.
April Lee is co-owner and president of Lee Building Maintenance, a commercial cleaning company providing healthcare facilities and office buildings with exemplary cleaning solutions. She steers organizational development and is also the point person for human resources, marketing, and policy development for the family-owned organization. Lee is a Certified Business Service Executive (CBSE), one of the highest designations of excellence in the building service industry from Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI). She is a visionary who executes new strategies to assure long-term business objectives are achieved. As an example, she implemented safety practices to reduce hazards and improve overall OSHA scores. Prior to co-establishing Lee Building Maintenance with her husband, Jason, in 2015, Lee worked in the not-for-profit sector for over 15 years, beginning her career as a director of operations and ending it as an executive director. What she discovered is that the same principles that governed her success in the nonprofit world–leading with empathy, finding common values with team members, and creating a positive work culture where people are motivated to succeed – also applied in the commercial cleaning industry, where she supports and supervises a team of 100 employees. It’s all about people, products, and processes. Lee has served on the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Delaplaine Arts Center, and Frederick Health’s Patient and Family Advisory Council. She currently serves as a member of the Frederick Planning Commission as well as the Board of Directors for Downtown Frederick Partnership, and the Ausherman Family Foundation I.D.E.A Committee. The married mom of three finds relaxation in her garden, traveling, spending time with family and friends, or volunteering in her community.

Karen Edelen joined Lee Building Maintenance in 2015; however, her career in the commercial cleaning industry began in 2008 when she worked for another janitorial services company. As an area leader, Karen is heavily involved with the QA process for the facilities her team cleans. She also conducts monthly building walkthroughs with clients, delivers supplies to her locations, and manages special services and projects as needed.

Karen’s favorite parts about working at Lee Building Maintenance include the relationships that form with clients and her coworkers while on the job and the challenges that her team learns to overcome together.
